Monday 9 July, mainly fine, 20°C · Up @ 6:20, tube / bus to work, arr 8:00 · Left @ 5:00 · Walked down through Camden looking @ shops then tube home, arr 6:00 · Out for a ride to the pool @ 8:00 for a swim · Home @ 9:00 Tuesday 10 July fine / showers / fine, 20°C · Up @ 6:20, tube to work, arr 8:00 · Posted birthday present to Mum (£7.20) · Left work @ 5:30, tube home, arr 6:30 · Out for walk @ 8:00 to Kylie and Johns, home @ 9:15 Wednesday 11 July windy, fine, 20°C · Up @ 6:20, tube to work, arr :8:00 · Left work @ 5:30, tube to Tottenham Court Rd, met Liz · Walked to Delhi Brasserie in Soho for tea (£25) · Coffee in Soho then walked to Charing Cross, train to Waterloo East, tube to Bermondsey · Home @ 8:00 ·
Packed out bags for Scotland Thursday 12 July London to
Edinburgh cloudy / showers, 14°C · Up @ 7:30 · Left @ 8:30, tube to Canary Wharf, shuttle bus to City Airport (£3 each) · Plane left @ 10:30 (1/2 hr late), good flight, arr @ 11:30am · Picked up rental car (Hertz, £17/day) Fiat Punto · Drove into Edinburgh and to B & B (Lauderville B&B, Mayfield Street) · Dropped off bags and car, bus into town · Had lunch and walked along Princes Street · Got on tour bus (£6 ea) which went round town and castle. We didn’t get off anywhere · Walked around shops some more, got soaked in a heavy shower then back to B&B on bus · Out in car @ 5:30, drove to Leith wharves to pub for tea (£25), drove through Portobello then back to B&B Photo "Edinburgh Castle from Princes Street"

showers, 16°C · up @ 8:00, breakfast then left @ 9:00 · drove to Leith then west along shore then to South Queensferry · took photos of Forth Rail Bridge, then drove over Forth Road Bridge, then east to Burntisland to Margaret (Liz’s cousin) and Edward’s house · Margaret took us for a drive to St Andrews, walked alongside 18 fairway of Old Course then drove back round coast to Burntisland · Lunch @ 3:30 · Left @ 6:00, drove back into Edinburgh thru traffic jams to local mall (closing) then back to B&B @ 8:00 Photo "Forth Rail Bridge, over the Firth of Forth" Photo "St Andrew's Old Course, 18th Green"
Saturday 14 July cloudy
/ showers, 15°C · Up @ 8:00, left B&B @ 9:00 · Drove to Falkirk and Carron then on to Stirling · Parked car and got on a hop-on hop-off tour bus. Got off @ Stirling Castle · Joined a guided tour of the Castle then walked down the hill to Stirling town proper for some lunch at a shopping mall · Liz bought shoes (£15) and a Karimoor Gore-Tex jacket (£135) · Back on bus and stayed on past Wallace Memorial and got off back at the visitor centre / car @ 3:00 · Bought Scotland shirt (£17.50) · Drove to Wallace Memorial. Walked up the hill then up the 240 steps to the top for a good view over Stirling and the Firth of Forth · Drove to Dunblane to look around the town then to Callender and to Lake of Monteith · Back to Stirling for tea at Hogshead pub (2 x roast chicken and drinks - £10) · Back to Edinburgh @ 8:00 and back to B&B Photo "William Wallace Memorial" Photo "View from top of William Wallace Memorial looking to Stirling (west)"

drizzle / fine / cloudy, 15°C · Up @ 8:00, left @ 9:00 · Drove to Edinburgh Castle and did the tour. Looked through the Book of Remembrance in the Castle and found a reference to a “John Cruickshank Caldwell” who died in WWII · Walked down The Royal Mile then back to car @ 11:30 · Drove west along M8 through Glasgow then north to Balloch then to Luss. Walked around pretty town on the shore of Loch Lomond. Had lunch at a café · Drove on up the west side of the Loch , stopped @ Inveruglas for photos then through Crianlarich and Callander then back to Stirling. · Swapped Scotland shirt for larger size then back to Edinburgh for tea @ Garfunkels · Drove around Holyrood Park then back to B&B Photo "Aiming at Princes Street from Edinburgh Castle"

London partly cloudy, 18°C · Up @ 8:00, drove to airport, arr 9:45 · Dropped off car and checked in · Flight left @ 10:50, good flight bit bumpy near London · Taxi home from City Airport (£15) · Out to Old Street, bought computer desk (£20) from Argos · Back home · Out @ 7:30 for a swim then home @ 9:00 · Holiday costs to Edinburgh: flights £150, B&B (4 nights) £240, car £140 = £530 Tuesday 17 July fine /

Sunday 29 July fine, 32°C · Up @ 10:30 · Waited for shopping to be delivered (internet shopping £5 delivery fee), arrived late · Bus to London Bridge, tube to Hampstead, walked to Hamstead Heath · Walked down through the Heath to bathing pools · Got crisps/drink/cakes @ shops for lunch @ 3:30 · Sat under trees and had a picnic · Walked to Parliament Hill for a view over London then to Gospel Oak and caught a train to Kentish Town West · Walked to swimming baths but they were shut · Tube to London Bridge, bus home @ 6:30 · Out for tea @ 7:00 to Pizza Express, got takeaway and sat on grass by Tower Bridge ·
